IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ INSTALLATION INFORMATION BEFORE INSTALLING ANY WEBFORCE PRODUCTS FROM THESE CDS!
It is very important to review this README and the release notes for each specific product you plan to install. (See below for instructions on viewing release notes.) In particular, you should be aware of the following issues:
The default CD installation may install more products than you intend or are licensed to use; you must verify what products you want to install and are licensed to use.
You may need to create certain users and groups for some of the Netscape servers BEFORE you install those products.
Because of differences in how the Enterprise server is configured from the FastTrack server, certain desktop cgi applications (including Intranet Junction, InfoSeek, Dynaweb, and Outbox) will not work unless Enterprise is reconfigured to enable CGI.
You should be aware that by default, the /var/www/htdocs directory is world writable, to allow non-root users of the system to be able to add content to a document root.
For more information about these issues, see the "Installation Known Issues" section at the end of this CD.
Thank you for purchasing WebFORCE from Silicon Graphics.
There are a number of reasons that you may be using these CDs:
Depending on your situation, you may or may not be entitled to use all of the products that are included on these CDs. Licensed products can only be used if you have purchased the appropriate licenses. See the License Information section below for details.
IMPORTANT: Most of the products on these CDs are marked to be installed by default. You should make sure to manually choose to install only those products that you are entitled to use. You run the risk of filling up your system disk with products that are not licensed to your system and will not run if you do not carefully choose the products you want to install.
This WebFORCE release contains two CDs:
This CD contains both new and upgrade products for WebFORCE systems. Some of the products are designed to only work with a particular version of IRIX. Other products are compatible with (and tested on) all three of the most recent IRIX versions (IRIX 6.2, IRIX 6.3, and IRIX 6.4). Inst and the Software Manager will automatically offer to install only the software that is appropriate for your version of IRIX.
The second CD contains Netscape Enterprise Pro with Oracle (nss_esproora) and Netscape Enterprise Pro with Informix (nss_esproifmx), as well as Netscape Enterprise (nss_enterprise) and Netscape Admin (nss_admin). The versions of nss_enterprise and nss_admin on the second CD are identical to the versions of nss_enterprise and nss_admin included on the first CD; they are duplicated for convenience only.
The second CD contains upgrade products that work with IRIX 6.2, IRIX 6.3, and IRIX 6.4. The same images will work with all three of these versions of IRIX.
If you purchased a WebFORCE Origin system after March 3, 1998, IRIX 6.4 is pre-installed, and much of the WebFORCE software is pre-installed on your system disk. You will only need to use this CD in order to re-install these products or install products that may not be installed on your Origin system by default. Be sure to review the licensing section below to see if you are entitled to use a specific WebFORCE product.
If you purchased a WebFORCE O2 system after March 3, 1998, IRIX 6.3 is pre-installed, and the appropriate WebFORCE software is pre-installed on your system disk. You will only need to use this CD in order to re-install these products or install products that may not be installed on your O2 by default. Be sure to review the licensing section below to see if you are entitled to use a specific WebFORCE product.
NOTE: For a full list of the software installed on your system, open a Unix shell and use the versions command (for example, you can type versions "nss*" to see which SuiteSpot applications are installed), or use the Toolchest's System menu and select the Software Manager, then click on "Manage Installed Software."
To INSTALL WebFORCE software, when you are finished browsing this README, click Dismiss (for Software Manager) or choose option 1 below to run the startup script (for inst). Inst will display the products appropriate for your version of IRIX. Carefully use the install and keep commands to choose which products to install. Alternately, you can use the Software Manager from the System menu of the Toolchest. Follow the standard instructions displayed in the window to load the distribution, then use the Customize Installation button to indicate which products you want to install. Once the list is finalized, click Start to begin.
You may choose to read the release notes for products before installing them. You can now view the release notes easily from Software Manager: when you click on the product, the product name will highlight as a blue link if there are release notes available. Simply click again on the link to bring up the Release Notes window.
Alternately open a Unix shell and type:
cd /CDROM/docs (or docs6.3 or docs6.4 depending on which version of
IRIX you are running.)
./CDgrelnotes (or ./CDrelnotes for a non-graphical display)
If you should ever need to refer back to this README, simply re-insert the CD and double-click on the CD icon, or view the file /CDROM/dist/inst.README.
To INSTALL Real Networks software:
A five-stream license for Real Networks RealAudio/RealVideo Server 5.0 is integrated into your WebFORCE Origin system.
To begin your Real Networks server experience:
For viewing Real Networks RealVideo content or converting AVI-formatted video content into Real Networks format, you can use the PNEncode 5.0 and PNPlayer 4.2 products included on the WebFORCE CD.
NOTE: PNEncode is not compatible with IRIX 6.2. NOTE: PNPlayer 4.2 will be replaced by PNPlayer 5.0 in the future, but this product was not available from Real Networks in time for this WebFORCE release. PNPlayer 5.0, supporting new file types, will be available from http://www.real.com/
Customer support for the Real Networks server, player, and encoder are provided directly by Real Networks from their Web Site at http://service.real.com/

All of the Netscape products are considered to be "licensed" products. Unlicensed users are not legally allowed to install and use unlicensed products. Some of the Netscape servers require a FLEXlm license to be installed, while other servers do not require any FLEXlm licenses even though they are "licensed" products.
The following Netscape products are considered to be "licensed" products, but a FLEXlm license is not required:
NOTE: The Admin Server products are prerequisites for other Netscape servers to function. Admin 3.5 is a prerequisite for Enterprise Server 3.5.1, Directory 3.0, and the 3.5 servers. Admin 2.x is a prerequisite for the WebFORCE 1.x and 2.x Netscape servers.
NOTE: This product is included as an upgrade from older versions of FastTrack for IRIX 6.2 customers only. It requires a license on some versions of IRIX.
The following products constitute Netscape SuiteSpot Standard Edition, and require FLEXlm licenses to decrypt and install: Permanent FLEXlm licenses are pre-installed on Origin WebFORCE hardware bundles.
The following two Netscape server products, known together as Enterprise Pro, are considered part of Netscape SuiteSpot Standard Edition. If you have previously purchased a license for Enterprise Pro products, then your existing license will allow you to use the new versions.
However, if you have purchased a new WebFORCE hardware bundle, these products are not pre-installed or licensed because they are not included in the purchase of a new WebFORCE system. Please contact SGI if you would like to purchase these products.
NOTE: This product is not pre-installed on your WebFORCE system. This product requires nss_enterprise 3.0 or 3.5.1 to be installed and functioning correctly.
NOTE: This product is not pre-installed on your WebFORCE system. This product requires nss_enterprise 3.0 or 3.5.1 to be installed and functioning correctly.
The following products constitute Netscape SuiteSpot Professional Edition, and require licenses to decrypt and install. They are not pre-installed on your WebFORCE system.
NOTE: If you do not already have a license for these products, you must purchase a license to install the product.
The following Netscape products work with the licenses of other Netscape servers:

The following known issues may affect your installation of WebFORCE products:
As a consequence, desktop applications that depend on CGI (including Intranet Junction, InfoSearch, Dynaweb, and Outbox) will not work unless Enterprise is re-configured. The steps for doing so are included here in brief detail using the admin server. For more details, please see chapter 3 of the release notes for nss_enterprise, which explains how to change the nss_enterprise obj.conf file to match the ns_fasttrack obj.conf file and enable several ACLs not implemented by these steps.
To enable Intranet Junction with Netscape Enterprise Server 3.5.1:
These steps are also sufficient to enable Outbox (if it is installed) and other desktop applications that rely on CGI. Only InfoSearch and Dynaweb.
To enable InfoSearch and Dynaweb, add an entry in the Program group's CGI Directory section for /ebt-bin with the path /usr/lib/Insight/dweb/cgi-bin and add an entry in Content Management Additional Document Directories for /ebt-icons with the path /usr/lib/Insight/dweb/icons . Save and Apply this changes, and the Dynaweb icon in the Icon Catalog should now be functional.
For more details about enabling Dynaweb, see its release notes. For more information about Intranet Junction, consult the Intranet Junction CD. Be sure to check the nss_enterprise release notes if you want to edit Enterprise's config file directly.
If you are installing on your system disk any of the following Netscape servers, it is critical that you create the expected users and groups BEFORE you install the product. If the required users and groups do not exist, unpredictable results may occur, and existing unauthorized users may unexpectedly be granted server admin privileges.
Netscape Calendar: expects to give admin privileges to the user "unison" in the group "dxoffice".
Netscape Messaging: expects to give admin privileges to the user "ns-mail" in the group "nobody".
Netscape Collabra: expects to give admin privileges to the user "ns_news" in the group "ns-news"
Netscape Enterprise Pro with Oracle: requires the user "oracle7" in the group "dba" exist for user administration, and the user "wgsuser" in the group "nobody" exist for the sample database
Netscape Enterprise Pro with Informix: requires the user "informix" exist in the group "informix" for user administration
To create a user, you must have root privileges and edit the /etc/passwd file to add the following users:
ns-news:*:60002:60002:Netscape Collabra Server:/dev/null:/dev/null ns-mail:*:60003:60001:Netscape Messaging Server:/dev/null:/dev/null unison:*:60004:60004:Netscape Calendar Server:/dev/null:/dev/null informix::60005:60005:Informix users account:/var/netscape/suitespot/espro/informix:/bin/sh oracle7::60006:60006:Oracle User:/var/netscape/suitespot/espro/oracle:/bin/sh wgsuser:*:60007:60001:Oracle WGS Sample Database User:/var/netscape/suitespot/espro/oracle:/bin/sh
To create a group, you must have root privileges and edit the /etc/group file to add (or change) the following groups:
nobody::60001:nobody,ns-mail,wgsuser ns-news:60002:ns-news dxoffice::60004:unison informix::60005:informix dba::60006:oracle7
NOTE: If you purchased a WebFORCE Origin system, then Netscape Messaging, Collabra and Calendar were pre-installed, along with the users "ns-news", "ns-mail" and "unison", and the groups "dxoffice" and "ns-news". The user "ns-mail" was added to the existing "nobody" group.
Depending on your environment, you might want to change the
permission of this directory by using the
chmod 0755 /var/www/htdocs
command. This will change the permissions to only root to add
content; however, some SGI desktop products may assume that the
document root is writable.
If you are using System Security Scanner (S3) and Intranet Junction, you may receive a warning that the user "sgiweb" (created for the Intranet Junction product) has a home directory that is world writable. This is because the sgiweb user's home directory is /var/www/htdocs. Changing the permissions of this directory using chmod as described will remove this warning.

Included on the WebFORCE CD is the Syntax TotalNET Advanced Server (TAS) version 4.1.1 R2. If you purchased a new hardware system, you may receive a separate CD from Syntax containing a newer version of TAS (version 5.0 or 5.1, depending on when you purchased your system). WebFORCE customers receiving this CD as an update to existing WebFORCE products will not receive the separate TAS CD.
TAS 5.0, 5.1, and 4.1.1 cannot exist on the same system. You may wish to choose which version of TAS to install based on the version differences described below.
===================== What's New in TAS 5.0 ===================== Unified File Name Mapping TAS 5.0 offers the convenience of long file names in all three realms, as well as backward compatibility with older applications and operating systems through unified file name mapping. Expanded Volume Management Umask can now be specified at service level, volume level, or by individual users.Customers upgrading from 4.1.1 can either retain umask settings or fine tune permissions at the volume level through TotalAdmin. Improved NLS (Native Language Support) TAS 5.0 is NLS enabled. All TAS 5.0 server messages can be returned in languages other than English, simplifying system administration for international customers. Browse Master Support TAS 5.0 blends into the Microsoft network and interacts with Windows 95 and NT machines according to Microsoft's browsing standards. Administrators control the TAS browsing functions through TotalAdmin. Becoming a Windows 95 Logon Server TAS 5.0 supports login scripts for Windows 95 clients, allowing clients to map network drives and start needed applications, regardless of the actual workstation used. Volume Validation Volumes are validated individually as they are requested by the user, rather than allowing or denying access based on volume status at the original connect time, offering a more accurate portrait of the network's changing resources. NetBEUI Support TAS 5.0 supports NetBEUI on AIX and Solaris, for ethernet or token ring. NetBEUI support allows administrators to install TAS on an existing NetBEUI network, without adding TCP/IP to the clients. User Name Mapping TAS 5.0 offers user name mapping, allowing users to connect Windows 95 and NT machines and keep their login names of up to thirty-two characters. TAS maps the longer names to the more restrictive eight character UNIX requirements. Administrators can maintain their existing scheme and configure and modify mapping through the TotalAdmin interface, leaving end users unaffected. CIFS Support TAS 5.0 is fully CIFS compliant and offers users the ability to access servers with either hostname, IP address or NetBIOS name providing SMB services on a world-wide internet. Controlling Multiple SMB Dialects TAS 5.0 allows administrators to force their SMB clients to a lower level dialect, creating a standard set of eight-three (8.3) file names in a mixed operating system environment. This feature facilitates smooth migration for customers upgrading to newer operating systems, while maintaining their file and resource sharing abilities. ===================== What's New in TAS 5.1 ===================== Citrix-Based Product Capability TAS now supports Citrix-based technologies: WinDD from Tektronix, WinCenter from NCD, NTrigue from Insignia, and Intrigue from HDS. Wincenter users will need to download Service Pack 5 from NCD's web site at http://www.ncd.com. Case-Preserving and Case-Sensitive Volumes By default, TAS file services preserve filename cases, but are not case-sensitive like UNIX. TAS creates UNIX files with lowercase file names regardless of the case specified by the client, but TAS preserves the case specified by the client in a shadow attribute file. The result is that the client can create the file New.Doc and will see New.Doc in a directory listing, but the resulting UNIX file will be new.doc. TAS now provides a case-sensitive option for volumes. With this option selected, TAS file servers create UNIX files with the case specified by the client. It will, however, require that clients use that case consistently. If, for example, a client creates the file New.txt, TAS always refers to that file as New.txt, and not as new.TXT or any other combination of upper- and lowercase letters. For example, HTML files and Java classes created by an NT application and used by a UNIX HTTP server require that the case of the UNIX file match that of the client. Source code control packages with UNIX and NT implementations also require matching UNIX and client files. You should place such mixed-environment applications in their own case-sensitive volumes. See TAS Administrator's Guide or TAS Reference Guide for more information on case-sensitive volumes. DCE/DFS Support TAS file services can now export DFS file systems through TAS volumes. The file service process acquires DCE credentials on behalf of the user connected from the remote client to enable DFS access. Note - You must have the optional TotalNET Advanced Server with DCE module (TAS-DCE) package installed to use this feature. See TAS-DCE User's Guide for more information. DOS Archive Bit Support TAS now supports the DOS Archive attribute for files, as well as the Read-only, System, and Hidden attributes previously supported. Persistent Directory-IDs in the AppleTalk Realm Previous versions of TAS did not preserve Macintosh directory ID numbers across connections. This caused some problems with supporting Macintosh aliases and with some E-mail packages.
